Schedule for Spring 1995

In the sixteen week fall or spring semester the course is taught one evening per week for 3 hours so that teachers can participate in the class without requiring release time. Different themes are developed in each semester in order to accommodate the schedules of the faculty who teach the course. This allows the development of different modules.

The general theme of this semester's course is "Patterns in Life".

This course follows the development of the simple optical microscope for application to biological specimens. The participants learn about light and its interaction with glass and how a drop of water can magnify images. The central figure is Leeuwenhoek. The participants use the simple optical microscope that is available in kit form to the Arizona schools. They then use the laboratory optical microscope with CCD camera for image transfer into our computer system so the images can be downloaded onto participants discs for lesson plans or class presentations.
