GLG 101 classes taught by Prof. Stephen Reynolds emphasize observing, exploring, and visualizing our natural world, rather than requiring memorization of a static collection of facts. The class concentrates on understanding natural processes and how we explore and know things, rather than terms and factual trivial. The course involves much active, inquiry-based learning, in-class exercises, and internet-based learning. Students learn how to observe, think about, and understand the landscape around us, our place in the natural environment, and how geologic processes impact our environment, society, and economy. Students taking this class will view the natural world around them in an entirely new way.
