Spring 1999 |
ACEPT is very pleased to announce the names of the 1998-99 NSF ACEPT Scholars. These Scholarships, provided by the NSF as a supplement to the ACEPT project, are available to those pre-baccalaureate, pre-service elementary and secondary education majors with outstanding academic records and with demonstrated interests in teaching science or mathematics who are enrolled in the Diné Teacher Education Program (DTEP) or the ASU Professional Teacher Preparation Program (PTPP). The third cohort of ASU NSF Scholars was honored at a reception at the University Club on October 23, 1998. Key ACEPT science, math and science/math education faculty participated in the ceremony, and a lively discussion that followed lunch about the Scholars plans as future teachers. It was obvious that from that discussion that these future teachers are committed to improving the quality of teaching in Arizona. Because the Din College is located several hundred miles from Tempe, the award ceremony for the Diné NSF ACEPT Scholars will be scheduled in 1999 when the students can be present. Each student receives a certificate and scholarship funds to support their education needs during their final two years of pre-service education.
